The answer to your question: remuneration ranges from not nearly enough to substantially less than not nearly enough.

...but you gotta admit that there are more than a few profs out there who earn bucketloads of cash, yet don't really contribute much in the area of teaching, scholarship or administrative service. They are few, but they can be a real drag on morale.

The average full prof on my (public U) campus makes over $100,000 a year, for probably less than 5 hours of work a week. Which category is that? :)

Less than 5 hours of work per week? If true (and I have to say, I'm just a tad sceptical), I'd file that under the "Why Tenure Should be Abolished" category.

I just got a job as an adjunct at a local business college and they pay $20 an hour, for lecture time only. When I factor in my prep and grading time I'm getting $12.50 an hour. I can make $10 an hour tutoring, and I don't have to wear makeup or Iraqi-Torture Shoes. I'd like to get one of those well-paid teaching positions.
